Seeing Wonders of Northumberland County

Let's see Northumberland County. The Occurrence County made by the General Assembly of Virginia in 1648 during a period of rapid population growth and geographic expansion. Settlements in this area ranging from northern throat of about 1635. Originally known as the district Chickacoan India, the first appearance of the name of Northumberland in the colonial records in 1644. The following year, John Burgess Mottrom served as the first for the region in the House of Burgesses, which met in the capital of Virginia at Jamestown Colony.
Drastically reduced the size of the area in 1651 and 1653 as Lancaster County and Westmoreland County, respectively, are carved out of it.
Of the 172 districts which do not exist in the history of Virginia, Northumberland eventually became "ancestor" of 116 is - more than 95 counties at this time (some have gone to another country).
Northumberland County has a varied landscape. Coastal areas are low and flat and mountainous land up the hill to the west and northwest. Cheviot Hills and the threshold Whin formed from igneous rocks, primarily granite.
